Moving Mondays: What we can learn from the prickly cactus

At first glance, the desert doesn’t offer obvious signs of life and growth. Yet despite the harsh environment, the cactus continues to thrive by adapting to conditions unfit for other plant life.

We can learn a great deal from this prickly plant. Over the course of our lives, we face desert moments – times that seem unfit for growth and renewal – when all we see is death and destruction. These are the most opportune times for growth because we adapt, and and find new resources within ourselves and through others that help us thrive.

Reflection of the week: How has a desert moment in your life spurred your personal growth and renewal or fostered stronger connections with others?
